Senator Meeting and Movie   1 comment

Welcome everyone,

Today we had another fun filled and very active day for everyone here including me. Well today we started off in a press conference like meeting with the members of USA Today and the White House assistant Press Secretary Nick Shapiro as well as Micheal D. Shear the Washington Post’s White House Correspondence. It was definitely a different atmosphere in the Gannett Building where we all went because we went off the traditional track of the panel telling us about them and asking questions to just getting to the questions and doing an actual press conference exercise to get us in the real life feel of a true press coference. This activity gace us a feel of how lucky it is, being in a room filled with 60-80 other reporters wanting to know the same thing and waiting for your chance to be called to ask the questions, because its really hard for someone as young as us in the future to be called because of our limited ability to participate in such important conferences. Well after this interesting start to the day we were all hyped and a ready to actually start to meet with our own state legislatures. I met with Senator Chambliss’s own personal aid and asked questions regarding journalism and his own achievements to a certain degree. After my talk the the PA I went on to see Senator Chambliss himself and had the honor of having to take a photo with him, which he will sign and mail to me, ( so awsome!!). So as of now while im writing this blog I am watching a movie on which i will tomorrow have the pleasure of meeting with the book that it is off of, so until than stay TUNED 🙂

National Press Club/ Monument tour   Leave a comment

Hello everyone,

It’s Maulik again bringing you more news on my stay in Washington for the Journalism and Media conference. Well today it was a more enjoyable one because of everyones anticipation of the Monument Tour at the end of the day as well as meeting with some of the members of the White House correspondence panel like Chuck Todd, chief Correspondent of NBC News, Liz Sidoti- who works with the Associated Press (AP), and Chris Ciliza, Who writes for the ” The Fix”- a political blog for the Washington Post and many more. Well apart from the meeting with correspondents and political figure heads we also went to the Smithsonian Institutions, where we spent around a couple hours to “cool” off after the heated discussions with the panel members. During our 2 hour break I had decided to go see the Smithsonian Institution of American History, where I got a chance to actually see a real reproduction of OLD GLORY and help spread it out. Now many of you may think that getting into this conference is easy but I’m here to say its not because i had to work my butt off to get here and constantly do essays after essays in my literature class to hone my journalism skills and after three years it’s finally paying off. With years of Journalistic and Media practice everything is going the way I want it to. Well anyways back onto the days activities.. after the break we had regrouped and went back to the college campus and discussed on what we thought about the speakers as well as do story exercises to further our abilities. Afterwards it sort of started to slow down during dinner and because it was starting to go into nightfall. Now this is the part of the day which everyone looked forward to —- MONUMENT TOUR!!!— we went to see the White House, Thomas Jefferson Memorial, and the Lincoln Memorial whew we just enjoyed the night time and also listened to our bus tour guide on the way to the memorials. Besides seeing the Memorials and Monuments we also took many photos to show everyone that couldn’t be here the amazing night time view—- ( let me tell you — they are AMAZING). well thats all I can think about telling everyone right now and I will have more tomorrow so stay tuned.

Newseum Activities   Leave a comment

Hey everyone Maulik here and I have a story to tell you. Well I’m in Washington D.C. right now and I have just came back from a Museum called “The Newseum”. It is a very large building and actually my first time going, which turned out actually great haha. Well I truly enjoyed it because of the many many exhibits featured there from the past and I mean the PAST to the present. Some of the exhibits were quite interesting and actually appealed to me personally as well as journalistically like one with ELVIS, the 1st Amendment,  an interactive newsroom where you actually go on tv and record yourself giving a headline ( so AWESOME!!) and many more. I highly recommend that you go to see it whenever you come to Washington D.C. and i assure you, you will be amazed.

P.S. there is also a 9/11 exhibit that will take your breath away because of how well its covered and plus they have a piece of the twin towers antenna right there in the middle of the exhibit so that you can actually see how hot it got there to mangle the receiver.
